Carrying without the jank

v1.0.3.0 fixes pouncing and lag while the Hidden carries something, the missing-texture paint splats, and gives servers an example config and two new options.

Carrying without the jank

2026-09-30

v1.0.3.0 fixes what players ran into
on the first public servers, and has Hidden: Rebuild's own logo.

Gameplay and fixes

Carrying: a barrel or a body in the Hidden's hands no longer blocks his pounce or makes it
lag. What he carries stopped pushing him around, and his game stopped guessing wrong about his
weapon while his hands are full.

Paint and blood on props: FN303 paint splats and blood on crates, barrels and pipes show up
as splats again instead of big pink and black checkerboards, and the console no longer fills up
 with "bad reference count" warnings.

Bunny hopping was checked against Beta 4b: jumping, air control and the speed limits are the
same. How fast you can build speed does depend on the server's tickrate.

Servers

An example config:
cfg/server_example.cfg
lists every server setting of the release and
its plugins, with its default and what it does. Copy it to
cfg/server.cfg
and change what you
need; updates never touch your copy. See the servers page.

hdn_hidehiddendecals 1
keeps blood and bullet marks off the Hidden. Beta 4b let them show
where he'd been hit, so they still do by default.

hdn_targetnames 0
turns off the name and health under the crosshair ("Friend: ..." for
marines, "Enemy: ..." for the Hidden up close). On by default, as in Beta 4b.

The game, this site and the launcher have a new logo and icon of our own.

Servers only accept players on the same version, so update both when you get this one; the launcher
does it for you.

A launcher, and every plugin

v1.0.2.0 comes with a launcher that sets everything up, brings the rest of the popular SourceMod plugins in, and keeps servers' own message of the day.

A launcher, and every plugin

2026-09-29

The third release, v1.0.2.0, makes
getting in a lot easier, and finishes bringing the old server plugins in.

The launcher

Installing used to take three downloads, two folders and a launch option. Now there's the
Hidden: Rebuild Launcher, for
Windows and Linux. It:

installs Hidden: Rebuild and keeps it up to date,

uses your Beta 4b if it's in Steam's
sourcemods
folder, and downloads the official release if
 it isn't,

has Steam install Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer if you don't have it,

and starts the game ready for VAC-secured servers, with no launch options to set.

It can also follow the test builds instead of releases. The install guide
covers it, and the manual install still works as before. The launcher is a fork of mastercomfig's
Team Comtress launcher.

Plugins

The rest of the popular Hidden:SourceMod plugins are now built in, each off until a server turns it
on: Friendly Fire Radio, Radio to Voice, Radio Taunts, Radio+, Radio Trip Alarm, Ammo Requester,
Dynamic Round Timer, Anti-Blur, Fake Tickrate, HandiCap and the Spectator Hidden Trail. Only Hidden
Ranks is left out, a whole stats system of its own. The plugins page lists what
each does and its cvars.

Plugin menus, like HandiCap's, show up and work now: Beta 4b's HUD had no fonts or colours for them,
and picking an item never reached the plugin.

Gameplay and fixes

Marine clips: marines no longer stutter against the invisible walls some maps put up for
them only. Their game now knows the walls are there, instead of walking through and being pulled
back by the server (Beta 4b did that too).

Bots mostly stop walking off ledges and roofs, and jumping into the void on maps like
Eminence (the odd one still slips off a plank there).

The team and weapon menus sit in the middle of wide screens instead of the left.

Servers

Your message of the day survives updates. Put it in
hidden2013/cfg/motd.txt
; updates never
touch it. The one that comes with the game is new and links this site and the community Discord.

Pterodactyl: an egg for Pterodactyl panels installs the server, Beta 4b and the game, and
keeps it updated on every start; the Linux package's
hidden_update.sh
does the updating
anywhere else. See the servers page.

The site has a new look too, in hidden-source.com's colours.

Servers only accept players on the same version, so update both when you get this one; the launcher
does it for you.

Dedicated servers and VAC

v1.0.1.0 ships dedicated server packages for Windows and Linux, and gets Steam players onto VAC servers.

Dedicated servers and VAC

2026-09-28

The second release, v1.0.1.0, is
about playing together: running a server, and getting onto one.

Servers

Dedicated server packages for Windows and Linux. Steam's dedicated server download only
comes with a 32-bit launcher, which can't run the mod, so the packages bring their own 64-bit
one. The servers page walks through the setup. Both have been tested with
 players joining over the internet.

Linux: Beta 4b has file and folder names with capitals, which a Linux server can't find. The
packages include a script that renames them once.

Listen servers (Create Server in the game) work over the internet through Steam's relay:
friends join from the Friends tab or a Steam invite, without any port forwarding.

Getting onto VAC servers

Started from the Steam library, the game ran in insecure mode, and VAC-secured servers turned it
away. Steam passes the option that should prevent that, but the engine drops it the way Steam starts
mods. The fix is one line in Hidden: Rebuild's launch options in Steam:

-sacrifice -steam

The first option is lost on the way, so
-sacrifice
goes and
-steam
survives. The
install guide has the details.

Gameplay and fixes

Beta 5 Physics, another SourceMod plugin now built in (
hsm_b5phys
, off by default): the
Hidden's thrown props do 75 damage instead of killing outright, unless the marine was already
 that low. See the plugins.

Spawning no longer lists your weapons and ammo on the right of the screen, as in Beta 4b.

The cvars' help texts say what they do, on the site and in the console.

Servers only accept players on the same version, so update both when you get this one.

Hidden: Rebuild

Hidden: Source Beta 4b, rebuilt on the current Source SDK 2013.

Hidden: Rebuild

2026-09-27

Hidden: Source's code was lost years ago, and Beta 4b's 2006 binaries don't run on today's Source
engine. Hidden: Rebuild rebuilds the game on the modern SDK and keeps using the original content.

It plays Beta 4b as it was. The numbers, the round flow, the Hidden's pounce, cling, aura and
pigstick, the IRIS loadouts, sonic alarms and radar, the menus and the HUD are all worked out from
the original game, with the maps, models and sounds loaded from your own Beta 4b install. What's new
is underneath: a maintained 64-bit engine, native Linux builds, and dedicated servers for both.

Also in:

Bots for both sides, so a small server still gets a game going (
bot_add
,
hdn_bot_quota
).

The popular SourceMod plugins, built in with their old cvars:
PigShove, Mirror Damage, Team Aura and more. Old server configs keep working.

Beta 4b's own anti-cheat material check, ported as it was.

The community's fixed
hdn_decay
and
hdn_origin
in the map cycle, falling back to the
originals where a server doesn't have them.

The first release, v1.0.0.2, is on the
downloads; the install guide walks through it. Where something doesn't play the way you remember Beta 4b,
open an issue: matching the original comes first.
